A pedestrian was struck and killed in Urbana Tuesday night around 8 o’clock.
The Urbana Police Department reports Jack Rufus Jr., 53, of Urbana, was walking westbound along the sidewalk with his sister in the 600 block of Scioto Street when he lost his balance and fell into the outermost lane of the road.
A Chevy pickup, driven by Shaun Johnson, 39, of St. Paris, was slowing to turn into a driveway when Rufus fell in front of his vehicle and was struck and run over.
Witnesses informed police that Rufus had been observed walking unsteadily and lost his balance prior to eventually falling into the street where he was struck.
Medics transported Rufus to Mercy Health-Urbana Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Urbana Coroner, Dr. Joshua Richards, arranged for an autopsy to be conducted which will be handled by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation continues.
