On Saturday afternoon, Bellefontaine Police responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Madriver Street.

The incident was reported by the victim’s 11-year-old daughter, who called 911.

Upon arrival, officers learned that an argument had escalated between the victim and Joshua Phillips, 41, of Bellefontaine.

Phillips had gone outside to cool off in his car, where he was found drinking beer by the victim.

She threw the beer to the ground and retreated indoors.

Phillips forcibly entered the home, grabbed the victim by the neck with both hands and pushed her to the ground, choking her.

The victim struggled and yelled for help while attempting to defend herself.

She sustained a red scratch on her neck as a result of the altercation.

Phillips claimed that the victim had swung at him before he restrained her on the ground.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail, facing charges of domestic violence and strangulation.

The case is now under review by the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office and Logan County Children’s Services.
