Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Coleton J. Piatt has been selected as the 2025 Springfield Post Trooper of the Year.

This marks the second consecutive year Piatt has received the award.

The honor recognizes Trooper Piatt’s outstanding service throughout the year, and he was chosen by his fellow troopers at the Springfield Post.

The selection is based on leadership, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, an enthusiastic work attitude, and strong cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.

Piatt will mark 10 years in law enforcement in February of 2026.

He began his career with the Mechanicsburg Police Department, where he served for a year and a half before joining the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

He later transitioned to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, joining the Patrol in 2023 and serving at the Springfield Post throughout his career.

When asked why he is in law enforcement, Piatt said, “As a little kid, I always had a desire to want to help people. I chose law enforcement because I have the ability to help and the ability to change someone’s life for the better. People don’t commonly like interacting with law enforcement, but I try to make my interactions with them as positive as possible.”

A West Liberty native and graduate of West Liberty High School, Piatt is also continuing his education at Southern New Hampshire University Online, where he is studying criminal justice.
