Bellefontaine police arrested a man Sunday evening after a crash on South Main Street.

Officers responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. after a vehicle was reported smoking in the roadway.

Upon arrival, they found a white Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Manuel De Jesus Guzman Pimienta, 24, of Bellefontaine, with heavy front-end damage.

Witnesses reported the Cruze had struck a Ford F-150 from behind.

The Bellefontaine Fire Department treated Mr. Pimienta at the scene before transporting him to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Officers noticed he showed signs of impairment, and a portable breath test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.274, more than three times the legal limit.

Police also discovered an open container of alcohol in the Chevrolet.

Pimienta was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence, operating without a valid Ohio license, failure to maintain assured clear distance, and possession of an open container.

He was arrested and lodged at the Logan County Jail and scheduled to appear in the Bellefontaine Municipal Court at a later date.
