Police arrest woman after report of drunk driving with child

A Bellefontaine woman was arrested Friday night after police say she drove while impaired with a young child in her vehicle.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:32 p.m. after receiving a report of an intoxicated woman driving with a child in the back seat.

The caller told dispatch the vehicle was traveling between Deercreek Apartments and Varsity Drive-Thru.

Officers found the vehicle, a white 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe, outside an apartment at Deercreek Apartments.

Police identified the driver as 39-year-old Danielle Harrigan.

Officers reported Harrigan was sitting in the driver’s seat with the keys in her possession, while a child estimated to be about 3 years old was secured in a rear car seat.

Police said Harrigan admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the evening.

Officers also reported smelling alcohol on her and finding empty alcoholic beverage containers inside the SUV during a search of the vehicle.

According to the report, Harrigan agreed to perform field sobriety tests, during which officers observed several signs of impairment.

Harrigan was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired and transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department.

Harrigan agreed to take a breath test, and it showed a blood alcohol content of 0.117, above Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08.

Harrigan was cited for OVI and open container.

She was also charged with child endangerment and transported to the Logan County Jail.

Police records showed Harrigan had a prior OVI conviction in 2019.
