Police Department hosts downtown cookout

The Bellefontaine Police Department served up more than just public safety on Tuesday—they served lunch.

In a gesture of appreciation, officers fired up the grill and hosted a free community cookout at the fountain in downtown, welcoming downtown business owners, employees, and passersby for a complimentary meal and friendly conversation.

The event was part of an ongoing effort to strengthen ties between law enforcement and the local community.

Officer Doug Walters talks about the event and what’s coming up for the department:

Attendees enjoyed freshly grilled burgers, brats, and hot dogs, casual conversation, and the chance to meet the faces behind the badges.

The Bellefontaine Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association assisted at the event.

The department says it will continue to make the cookout an annual tradition.
