Gregory Ferguson, 64, of Bellefontaine, is facing multiple charges after being stopped for speeding and found to be driving under the influence with a loaded rifle in the vehicle.

Tuesday evening, just after 6:30 p.m., Bellefontaine police officers clocked a black Dodge Durango going 55 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone along West Sandusky Avenue.

During a traffic stop, Ferguson was identified as the driver and showed several signs of intoxication.

While speaking with him, officers noticed a loaded .22 caliber AR-style rifle on the passenger seat.

Ferguson admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day, estimating he had “probably three drinks.”

He then failed several field sobriety tests and later refused to provide a breath sample during a breathalyzer test at the Bellefontaine Police Department.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found a cold cup under the passenger seat containing a high-proof alcoholic beverage.

Ferguson was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail.

He is charged with speeding, operating a vehicle under the influence, having an open container, and using weapons while intoxicated.
