Bellefontaine Police responded to shots fired Friday night at Oakland Square around 11:30 p.m.
Officers converged on the area and found several people outside.
During their investigation, it was determined a physical altercation took place between Hilbert Hassell, Jr., 30, and a male victim.
The victim had visible injuries.
When officers encountered Hassell, he was heavily intoxicated. Hilbert was arguing with several people when officers arrived.
Police searched the area and located 5.7mm shell casing. There were no indications that the casing was freshly spent.
After speaking with several people in the area, it is still unknown who fired the gunshots.
Hassell was placed under arrest for assault and public intoxication and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Further investigation is pending.
