Sunday night, the Bellefontaine Police Department stopped a gray Hyundai after seeing it traveling at a dangerously high rate of speed on South Main Street without headlights, using only daytime running lights.

The vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Timothy D. Hines of Bellefontaine, was seen weaving across lane lines and crossing the double-yellow centerline before turning onto Washington Avenue.

Officers noted that the brakes were smoking as Hines attempted to justify his actions, claiming he had just purchased the car and was trying to avoid sirens near his uncle’s home.

Hines admitted he did not have a valid driver’s license and had used a THC cartridge earlier in the day.

During field sobriety testing, he showed several signs of impairment.

Police reported that Hines was also argumentative and agitated throughout the encounter.

The vehicle was not properly registered, and the title did not match the current owner.

Hines was transported to the Logan County Jail, lodged for OVI, and his urine sample was sent to the Ohio State Highway Patrol lab for testing.
