A Bellefontaine boy received an unexpected act of kindness from local law enforcement after his bicycle was stolen sometime within the last two weeks.
The 10-year-old had spent his entire summer working odd jobs around his neighborhood to save enough money to buy the bike himself.
His mother contacted the Bellefontaine Police Department on Friday to report the theft.
When officers arrived to take the report, they learned how hard the boy had worked to purchase the bike and how disappointed he was to lose it.
Moved by the story, the responding officers—along with dispatch staff—decided to take action.
Together, they pooled their own money, purchased a brand-new bicycle, and delivered it directly to the boy.
Police say they hope the gesture not only replaces what was lost but also shows the young boy that his hard work and determination did not go unnoticed.
