UPDATE: According to Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds, deputies have taken an unnamed suspect into custody shortly after 9 PM, bringing an end to a more than nine-hour standoff on the north side of Indian Lake.
The suspect, who sustained a single gunshot wound to the arm, is currently being transported to the hospital for treatment.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation. Additional details regarding the incident are expected to be released as the situation continues to be assessed.
In a statement, Sheriff Dodds said, “Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, at approximately 1033 hours the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident at 11307 Big Bear Path Lakeview Ohio advising their home had been struck by gunfire. Upon deputy’s arrival, they determined the house was struck and suspected the shot came from the residence next door at 11331 Big Bear Path. Deputies attempted to talk with the resident at said address however they were unable to get anyone to answer the door. Nearby neighbors were asked to leave their homes for their own safety. Special Response Teams from area law enforcement responded and made numerous attempts to get the resident to come out so we could talk with him. The subject refused to come out. The subject fired numerous rounds at law enforcement from inside the residence. Return gunfire from officers injured the subject who eventually exited the residence. He was taken into custody and was taken by EMS to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The Bureau of Criminal has been contacted to process the scene because of the officer-involved shooting. The name of the suspect is not being released at this time. Standoff ended at approx. 2119 hours.”

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is actively managing a standoff situation on the north side of Indian Lake, particularly in the Big Bear Path area of Lakeview. Authorities are advising all residents and visitors to avoid the vicinity while they work to resolve the ongoing incident.
Sheriff Randy Dodds reported that the situation began following a 911 call that reported shots being fired into a residence. The suspect believed to be a male, has reportedly fired shots from inside the home this afternoon. No injuries have been reported.
A comprehensive response has been mounted, with law enforcement officials from multiple agencies present at the scene. This includes personnel from Bellefontaine Police, Bellefontaine Fire Department, Lakeview Fire Department, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Washington Township Police, Russells Point Police, Columbus Police, and Marysville Police.
Authorities are continuing to work diligently to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.
