Thursday afternoon, Logan County commissioners held a flag dedication ceremony to honor Army veteran Ray Prater for his service to the country.
The brief ceremony took place at the commissioners’ office.
Prater was drafted during the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970.
During his time in service, he earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
Prater grew up in Foraker, Ohio, in Hardin County, and is a proud graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School, Class of 1966.
After the ceremony, Prater encouraged those considering military service and talk about life after his service:
On hand to witness the ceremony were Jackie Prater, Clerk of Courts, Shelley Kneece, Director of the Logan County Veterans Office, Evan McClure, Service Officer, and Jesse Daniels, Service Officer. Also present were Logan County Administrator David Henry, Commissioner Office Administrative Clerk DeDe Doss, and all three commissioners: Joe Antram, Mike Yoder, and Greg Fitzpatrick.
A resident of Bellefontaine, Prater has been married to his wife Jodi for 53 years.
The couple has five children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
