A five-year-old girl is safe and back with her family after a group effort by local first responders helped find her Friday night.
Bellefontaine Police were called to a home on East Chillicothe Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. when the child’s mother realized her daughter had slipped out through the back door.
This wasn’t the first time the curious youngster had wandered off—just last week, she was found walking toward County Road 9.
What followed Friday night was a rapid and well-organized response from multiple agencies.
Police searched the area immediately, while Bellefontaine Fire and EMS, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Township Police, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol joined in.
A K-9 team, drone, and even a helicopter were brought in to help with the search.
Thanks to those efforts, a Logan County deputy spotted the girl near Allison and Schrader Roads.
Officers and medics responded, and the girl was safely reunited with her family.
She was later taken to Mary Rutan Hospital as a precaution.
The situation could have ended very differently—but thanks to quick thinking and teamwork, it ended in relief and smiles.
