The Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board of Trustees authorized Superintendent Kris Myers to issue a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to begin the process of redesigning the Hoffman City Pool at Mary Rutan Park. According to Myers, the goal for the start of construction is August 1, 2026.

Myers discusses what is involved:

Council member MacKenzie Fitzpatrick informed the board that the city council approved the Oakland Square Project appropriation in its most recent meeting. With the appropriation approved, work can begin on the project. Myers said that the playground equipment has been ordered.

In his report to the board, Superintendent Myers said that the summer sports seasons are well underway. Myers said that the next two weekends will see several tournaments coming to town. This coming weekend, 111 teams have registered for a softball and baseball tournament, and next weekend, 30 baseball teams have registered for the Chieftan Classic tournament.

Myers also stated that sign-ups for soccer and football are ongoing, and the youth football camp, held in conjunction with Bellefontaine High School, is scheduled for early August.

Myers informed the board that he has contacted H2Ohio, a State of Ohio initiative that works with local jurisdictions to improve land conservation, to begin installing a wetland at Myreeah Park. Myers talks about the wetlands project:

The board also approved the payment of bills for May, including a $196,000 debt service payment.
