One person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Main Street and Lake Avenue Monday evening.

According to a report released Wednesday by the Bellefontaine Police Department, the crash happened just after 5:00 p.m.

Police say Daniel Johnson, 51, of Middleburg, was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry north on South Main Street when he ran a red light at the Lake Avenue intersection.

Johnson’s vehicle struck a 2016 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Richard Herring, 63, of Bellefontaine.

Johnson was flown by MedFlight to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

Herring was not injured in the crash.

Police cited Johnson for failing to stop at a red light.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

Johnson’s current condition is unknown.
