A nationwide effort to celebrate America’s 250th birthday will make its way through Logan County Tuesday as part of a cross-country relay carrying the American flag from coast to coast.
The event will also feature several local connections, as folks from across the area will participate in a portion while in Logan County.
Relay For America is a nonpartisan initiative created to bring Americans together through a shared celebration of the nation’s history, service, and future.
The relay began in San Francisco on Flag Day, June 14, and will cover more than 3,000 miles before ending in Washington, D.C., on July 4, just in time for the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
About 250 runners will carry the American flag in relay fashion through 15 states, keeping the flag moving day and night throughout the journey.
The relay is expected to enter Logan County around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and will take about four hours to travel through the county before continuing into Union County.
In addition to carrying the flag across the country, Relay For America is honoring 3,000 U.S. military veterans through its Honor Wall, recognizing their service and sacrifice.
