A nationwide effort to celebrate America’s 250th birthday will make its way through Logan County Tuesday as part of a cross-country relay carrying the American flag from coast to coast.

Relay For America is a nonpartisan initiative created to unite Americans through a shared celebration of the nation’s history, service, and future.

The project was launched in recognition of the United States’ 250th birthday and is designed to bring communities together while honoring the people and ideals that have shaped the country.

The relay began in San Francisco on Flag Day, June 14, and will travel more than 3,000 miles before concluding in Washington, D.C., on July 4, 2026, in time for the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.

Along the route, approximately 250 runners will carry the American flag in relay fashion, with the flag moving continuously, day and night, through 15 states.

The relay is scheduled to pass through Logan County on Tuesday afternoon, around 12:30 PM, and will take about 4 hours to make it through the county before continuing on into Union County.

In addition to carrying the flag across the country, Relay For America is recognizing 3,000 U.S. military veterans through its Honor Wall, highlighting the service and sacrifice of those who have served the nation.
