Community leaders gathered Wednesday morning at Mary Rutan Health for the Logan County Legislative Impact meeting, where State Representative Tim Barhorst provided updates on Ohio’s new state budget and the 67 line-item vetoes issued by Governor Mike DeWine.
Barhorst, who represents Ohio’s 85th District, walked attendees through the major highlights of the budget and explained how some of the vetoes could affect local funding.
“These vetoes don’t mean the conversation is over,” Barhorst told the audience. “We’ll be looking closely at some of these items when we meet on July 21st to override some of them.”
Barhorst talks more about why he voted no on the budget and what happens from here:
The meeting included a Q&A session, where local officials voiced concerns about school funding, Medicaid reimbursements, and proper tax concerns.
The group also thanked Barhorst for his representation and for listening to what he felt the voters in his district wanted.
Barhorst emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication between the statehouse and local communities.
The event was hosted by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce as part of its ongoing effort to connect local leaders with state policymakers.
