A swift and coordinated response by local emergency services successfully contained a residential structure fire early this morning. The alarm sounded just before 1 AM Sunday morning, prompting a quick response from local fire units to respond to 527 Walker Street in Bellefontaine.

Engine 21, Medic 21, and the Bellefontaine Police Department (BPD) were dispatched to the scene. BPD officers reported there were flames at the rear of the building, leading E21 to request the activation of off-duty personnel and additional mutual aid.

Upon arrival, Acting Chief TJ Weikart took command of the situation. The two-story residential structure was heavily engulfed in flames and smoke, particularly concentrated on the east side and the roof of the building.

The fire was declared under control right after 1 AM. Additional support came from the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department and the Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department, which provided essential manpower.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Macochee Joint Ambulance. Both are reported to be in stable condition following treatment.

No one was at the home during the time of the fire and according to authorities, it was under construction from a previous incident involving fire.
