Staff Sergeant Austin Glasgow has received the Indiana Distinguished Service Cross for heroic actions taken outside the line of duty.
The award was presented earlier this month, recognizing Glasgow’s response to an emergency in September 2024.
While traveling home, Glasgow came upon an overturned dump truck on an interstate exit ramp in Indiana.
He stopped to help, rescued the civilian driver, and performed life-saving measures until the individual could be transferred to medical personnel.
Glasgow joined the U.S. Army in May 2013 as a 12R Interior Electrician, completing basic combat training and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
He later attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
His military career includes assignments at Fort Richardson, Alaska, followed by service with the 7th Special Forces Group in Florida, where he supported rotations throughout Central and South America.
From 2017 to 2020, Glasgow served with the 5th Special Forces Group, where he also taught 18-series Green Berets construction skills for deployed environments.
In April 2019, Glasgow was promoted to Staff Sergeant and reclassified as a 12H Construction Operations Supervisor.
He is currently stationed in Indiana as an Observer, Coach, and Trainer, partnering with active duty and National Guard units across the country to support training and deployment readiness.
Glasgow is a 2013 graduate of Riverside High School and the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.
After 13 years of service, Staff Sergeant Austin Glasgow is expected to exit the U.S. Army this coming spring.
The Indiana Distinguished Service Cross is awarded for extraordinary bravery, and Glasgow’s actions reflect a continued commitment to service both in uniform and at home.
