Riverside High School has announced Miah Carman and Kagen Peoples as the October Seniors of the Month for the Class of 2027.
Miah Carman is the daughter of Andrea Kern and Jeremiah Carman.
School activities and awards: Carman is involved in Interact, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, the Pirate Advisory Committee, Student Council, basketball and softball.
If I were principal for a day: I would host a high school pickleball tournament and have Chipotle for lunch.
Favorite school memory: My entire sophomore year was the highlight of my high school experience. Between how close our teams were, the seniors I looked up to, and making it to nationals in Florida with all my friends, it was really an unforgettable year.
People who have been an inspiration to me include: My physical therapists. Beyond getting me back to playing sports, they were great mentors and the reason I decided to pursue physical therapy as a career.
My advice to parents: Don’t worry so much about my future plans. You’ve taught me what I need to know to figure things out on my own.
My biggest regret: I wish I had started taking college classes sooner instead of waiting.
Next year I will be: Attending college and studying pre-physical therapy.
Kagen Peoples is the son of Lindsey Buckenroth and Derrick Peoples.
School activities and awards: Peoples participates in Ohio Model United Nations, Interact Club, UNICEF, Business Professionals of America, bowling and marching band.
If I were principal for a day: I’d resign.
Favorite school memory: My favorite school memory is when we would do no work in Mr. Bodenmiller’s class on Mondays.
People who have been an inspiration to me include: John Prine, for his truthfulness and honesty, and Cameron Winter, for his unabashed originality.
My advice to parents: Don’t ask for advice from high school seniors.
My biggest regret: Working at Arby’s my junior year.
Next year I will be: Attending college and studying physics.
