Riverside school board hears about gold star preschool

The Riverside Board of Education was informed that the district preschool was recently awarded a gold star rating from the State of Ohio, the highest possible rating. In his report to the board, Elementary Principal Bryce Hodge relayed that he was just notified of the rating. Hodge praised the staff for their hard work and dedication: 

Hodge also informed the board that the Lunch Buddies program is concluding, and he hopes for more volunteers next year.

Athletic Director Rod Yoder reported to the board that several winter sports athletes were named to the Three Rivers Conference team.

Lady Pirates Basketball:

  • Avery Perk – 2nd Team TRC All-League; SW District Coaches 1st Team
  • Aubree Huston and Micah Carman – Honorable Mention
  • Perk and Huston – District All-Star game

Pirates Basketball:

  • Jaxon Woods – 1st Team TRC All-League; SW District Coaches 1st Team
  • Gavin Orsborne and Brody Orsborne – Honorable Mention
  • Woods and Gavin Orsborn – District All-Star game

Bowling

  • Cooper Crouch – Sectional and District Champion; 5th in State; 1st Team

Yoder also said that 16 students recently attended the Three Rivers Conference Leadership Conference and that softball, baseball, and track seasons are all starting soon.

In her report, Middle and High School Principal Kelly Kauffman reported that the seniors attended the recent Career Expo at Indian Lake. She also mentioned that high school juniors took the ACT exam earlier that day, She also said that this was the first year that the State of Ohio allowed students to opt out of taking the exam for the first time.

Board member Mark Zumberger reported that there are several openings with Ohio Hi-Point, including an assistant Technology Coordinator, cook, educational aide, Intervention specialist, and part-time van driver. for more information on openings, visit the Ohio Hi-Point website.

Superintendent Dr. Scott Mann told the board that a new contract has been negotiated with the district teacher’s union which involves a 3% per year raise for teachers. The contract was later approved by the board.

Several consent agenda items were approved by the board including raising the daily rate for substitutes to $130 as well as several employment issues. The board also approved a new 3-year service agreement with Waibel Energy Systems which will allow for the replacement of two boilers. The service agreement will cost $27,700 per year and replacing the boilers will cost the district $44,032 per year.

The next meeting of the Riverside Board of Education will be Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 5:30 PM in the district library.
