On Friday night, over 120 kings and queens were crowned at the annual Night to Shine at Cornerstone Church of Huntsville. This is the seventh year the church has hosted the annual prom for area residents with special needs or developmental disabilities.

The evening began with each attendee receiving a name tag and pairing up with their Buddy, who acted as a chaperone for the guest. Guests could get a free shoe shine, were given a boutonniere or corsage, could have their pictures taken in a photo booth, and a catered meal from The Syndicate. Guests could also enjoy a limo ride, karaoke, and dancing.

Pastor Bryan Meadows said that it takes an army of volunteers to pull the event off each year:

Pastor Bryan noted that he is continually humbled by the response of so many in the community:

The highlight of the evening involved each participant being introduced and walking the red carpet into the sanctuary. As in years past, a special message from Tim and Demi-Leigh Tebow was broadcast to the crowd via satellite. After that, each king and queen were given a crown or a tiara and danced the night away, courtesy of music provided by Sound Entertainment.

Over 700 locations worldwide were scheduled to host a Night to Shine in their community this year. According to the Night to Shine website, “Night to Shine is a complimentary event for people with special needs hosted by local churches around the world. The event is open to anyone living with disabilities, ages 14 and older. Each host church is responsible for planning and hosting its local expression of Night to Shine with support and resources from the Tim Tebow Foundation.”
