Volunteers and veterans gathered Saturday in Rushsylvania to take part in the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony at Rushsylvania Cemetery.

Despite bitterly cold temperatures, organizers say the community showed up in an overwhelming way to honor the nation’s fallen heroes.

Logan County Commissioner Mike Yoder served as the guest speaker for the event.

The ceremony also featured the American Legion Post 173 Honor and Color Guard, along with ceremonial wreath layers representing each branch of the U.S. military.

Those wreaths were laid by Scott Reir for the U.S. Army, Dave Ramsey for the United States Marine Corps, John Godwin for the United States Navy, and Susie Tapp for the United States Air Force.

200 total wreaths were placed on graves in the Rushsylvania Cemetery.

Organizers expressed their gratitude to the Rushcreek Township Trustees, the Rushsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, the Rushsylvania Lions Club, and numerous local sponsors whose support helped make the event possible.
