The Rushsylvania Lions Club Independence Day Celebration was held on Saturday.
The Lions Club parade began at noon with a small but enthusiastic crowd on hand as a light rain began to fall. The rain did not dampen the spirits of the crowd as the procession made its way through the village. Trophies were presented in several categories to parade participants. Some parade entries threw candy out along the route and children scrambled to happily grab what they could.
Following the parade, the Rushsylvania Lions Club held their annual chicken barbecue dinner at the park shelter house amid a few raindrops and some gusty wind but neither bothered the good-sized crowd lined up to enjoy food and fellowship. The chicken dinners sold out quickly.
Numerous vendors had displays at the park and several food trucks were also present for the day’s events.
Fireworks by the Rushcreek Township Fire Department began at dark with a nice crowd on hand to enjoy the evening festivities in celebration of Independence Day.
