Russells Point digs in—Splash Pad breaks ground despite the chill

It was a chilly 25 degrees on Monday morning, but that didn’t stop the Russells Point community from turning out for a big occasion: the groundbreaking of the new Russells Point Splash Pad.

Brave attendees, bundled in coats and hats, were all smiles as shovels hit the dirt on a project more than five years in the making.

The splash pad, funded entirely by local grassroots efforts, raised over $165,000 to bring fun and water-filled memories to the area.

Joan Hinterschied, the project’s driving force, called the moment a dream come true—and judging by the cheers, the feeling was mutual.

John Huffman, Russells Point’s Mayor, said the splash pad is more than just a summer attraction—it’s a way to bring the community together and draw more visitors to the area.

The chilly celebration wrapped up with coffee, doughnuts, and plenty of laughter at the municipal building, proving that no temperature can dampen Russells Point’s spirit.

A ribbon-cutting is expected around Memorial Day 2026.
