The Village of Russells Point planted a tree Saturday morning in memory of the late Mayor Robin Reames, combining the tribute with the village’s Arbor Day observance.

The October 10 ceremony included Kathryn Brautigam with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, who is working with the village as it continues efforts to become a Tree City.

The tree, a Crimson Queen Japanese maple, was selected by the Reames family.

The ornamental tree is expected to grow between eight and twelve feet tall and has a life expectancy of at least 30 years.

The village is still working to meet the requirements associated with Tree City recognition and hopes to earn the designation by the end of the year.

Additional trees are scheduled to be planted in November as Russells Point continues its efforts to expand its tree canopy and enhance the community.

Saturday’s planting also serves as a lasting tribute to Reames and her service to the village.
