The Russells Point Police Department said officers responded Wednesday to a non-injury crash at U.S. Route 33 and Lincoln Boulevard.
According to officials, officers used the village’s Honda Ridgeline multi-use vehicle to respond to the scene because of an extended response time and the need to return to town quickly.
Instead of stopping at the garage to pick up a marked cruiser, officers handled the call using the multi-purpose vehicle already in service.
Police said the Honda Ridgeline is equipped with emergency lighting and is regularly used for a variety of village functions.
While at the scene, the vehicle was parked behind one of the involved vehicles with its emergency lights activated to help protect motorists and officers.
The Russells Point Police Department also addressed speculation circulating on social media, saying the vehicle was not being used for covert traffic enforcement.
Officials said it was simply being used to safely manage the crash scene and assist those involved in the accident.
