Safety Town gets a fresh look

Jordan Butler, a former Safety Town participant, recently returned to the program to complete a community service project that brought a colorful new look to the facility.

Safety Town, established in 1962 and sponsored by the Bellefontaine Exchange Club, has taught generations of children about traffic safety and other important life skills before starting elementary school.

Over the years, the program has expanded to cover a variety of safety topics relevant to young children.

For her project, which required at least 80 hours of service, Butler chose to repaint the facility behind Mac-a-Cheek Learning Center at 1130 West Sandusky Avenue in Bellefontaine.

She refreshed 20 small structures that resemble miniature buildings, using multiple colors to give the space a vibrant, new appearance.

Butler is now a junior at the University of Cincinnati, studying occupational therapy, and said she wanted to give back to a program that influenced her own early education.

The Bellefontaine Exchange Club, a service organization active in the community since 1946, helped coordinate the project, working alongside the Bellefontaine Police Department and other volunteers to ensure the facility is ready for the next generation of Safety Town participants.
