An Urbana-area man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a reported incident involving inappropriate conduct inside a local retail store.
According to the Urbana Police Division, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:18 p.m. on February 20, 2026, to the Walmart Supercenter in Urbana after receiving a report of a male customer engaging in lewd behavior inside the store.
Multiple witnesses informed officers that they observed the behavior occur while the individual was inside the store and moving between aisles.
The man was identified as Tyler Jones, 25, of Saint Paris. Officers reported that Jones acknowledged his actions were inappropriate at the time of contact. Police also noted that his clothing was not properly secured when he was approached.
Jones was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Urbana Police Division, where he was interviewed by officers. According to the police report, Jones admitted that the incident was intentional and stated that he had planned to engage in the behavior while inside the store. Investigators say Jones told officers he remained inside the business for approximately 30 minutes and moved between different areas in an effort to avoid detection.
During the interview, Jones also admitted that this was not an isolated incident, stating that he had previously engaged in similar behavior at the same location on multiple occasions.
Following the interview, Jones was formally placed under arrest and issued a trespass notice prohibiting him from returning to the Walmart property. He was fingerprinted and transported to the Tri-County Jail.
Jones is charged with Public Indecency. The case will proceed through the Champaign County court system.
