The Sandy Beach Hydro Regatta is coming to Indian Lake Saturday and Sunday, bringing championship inboard hydroplane racing to the area.
The event is hosted by the Sandy Beach Racing Association and sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association.
Racing will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and is free to the public.
The majority of the racing action will be on the main race course along the south bank.
Boaters can watch from the water by anchoring beyond the spectator safety buoys.
For those watching from shore, organizers encourage spectators to bring chairs and find a spot along the shoreline.
Food trucks and a beer garden will be available throughout the weekend, along with a show-and-shine.
Traffic and access
State Route 366 will be closed from State Route 235 to Township Road 239. Organizers say visitors should enter the event from the east side of State Route 366 through Paradise Island and Indian Head.
Pedestrian access from State Route 235 will not be available because of the Hot Pit Safety Zone.
Event parking will be available along the shoulder on the far side of State Route 366.
Visitors should follow event signs and directions from the parking crew.
State Route 366 between State Route 235 and Lakeview Harbor will be closed beginning at noon Friday, August 21st, through midnight Sunday, August 23rd, or until the crane being used for the event is moved.
Lakeview Harbor and the boat ramp will be closed during that same period.
The race course will also be restricted during approximately the same time period.
Traffic on State Route 366 between Lakeview Harbor and Russells Point will remain open, with event traffic and parking along the edge of the road.
Access to additional parking and viewing areas will be from Township Road 239 off U.S. 33.
Normal traffic patterns will remain in place along State Route 235, but there will be no roadside parking. Parking lots will be available until full.
Organizers say State Route 235 is not the preferred viewing area, and there will be no access from that area to the preferred viewing locations.
