February 15th marks National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and in Logan County, several incredible officers and deputies serve in this vital role, working hard to keep students safe and foster positive relationships within their school communities.
Riverside Local Schools
Deputy Jean Stanfield, the School Resource Officer at Riverside Local Schools, has been with the district for nine years. She arrives early each day and dedicates extra hours to supporting the school community. Along with her main role of ensuring safety, Deputy Jean also assists with resetting over 650 Chromebooks during the summer to get them ready for the school year.
Her friendly personality and sense of humor make her a favorite among students, who often receive high-fives from her as they leave the school. “I strive to create a safe environment for our students,” Deputy Jean said. “Connecting with them and being a supportive presence in their lives is incredibly rewarding.” Outside of school, she enjoys reading, beekeeping, and visiting the Smoky Mountains with her partner Jacki and their animals.
Benjamin Logan Local Schools
In honor of Ohio School Safety Month, Benjamin Logan Local Schools is recognizing School Resource Officers Rick Herring, Neill Rhodes, and Matt Robinson for their dedication to student safety. These officers not only protect the schools but also build strong, meaningful relationships with students. Superintendent John Scheu expressed, “Their work goes far beyond safety and security. They help mentor students and teach them about safety and prevention.”
Indian Lake Local Schools
Indian Lake Schools are proud to have Officer Logan Miller serving as their School Resource Officer. Officer Miller builds trust with students of all grade levels, teaches DARE classes, and coaches the Esports team at Indian Lake High School. His K-9 partner, Hondo, interacts with students, adding a positive element to their school experience. Additionally, Washington Township Police Chief Michael Thompson and Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof assist with DARE classes and support student safety.
Bellefontaine City Schools
At Bellefontaine City Schools, three School Resource Officers play key roles. Doug Walters serves at Bellefontaine High School, John Godwin works at Bellefontaine Middle School, and Isaac Chiles covers both Bellefontaine Intermediate and Elementary Schools. These officers are always available to ensure the safety of students and offer support whenever needed.
Ohio Hi-Point Career Center
Deputy Adam Niederkohr is the School Resource Officer at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, where he focuses on maintaining safety and building positive relationships with students. His presence helps create a welcoming and secure environment for everyone at the school.
Across Logan County, the work of School Resource Officers extends far beyond just keeping schools safe.
They are mentors, role models, and trusted figures who help students feel secure and supported.
These officers are essential in fostering a positive school environment and strengthening the partnership between law enforcement and education.
For National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, we take a moment to thank these dedicated professionals for their unwavering commitment to student safety.
