The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently handling a one-vehicle fatal crash that happened late Sunday night.
Just after 11:30 PM, the accident happened on State Route 235 in Champaign County.
Preliminary reports say that a 2009 Ford Focus operated by 18-year-old Jackson Scott, of Quincy, was northbound on State Route 235.
Scott swerved to avoid striking an animal, lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway, and hit a tree.
He succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Scott is a graduate of the Riverside Class of 2025.
A passenger in the vehicle, classmate Landyn Thompson, was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.
He remains in serious condition.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
This crash remains under investigation.
