In West Palm Beach Flordia, law enforcement has identified Ryan Wesley Routh as the suspect in the recent attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life. This incident, which happened on Sunday afternoon, is the second such attempt on Trump in the past two months.
Routh was reportedly armed with an assault rifle and outside Trump International Golf Club while Trump was playing golf. He was able to push his rifle through a fence, putting him between 300 to 500 yards from Trump. The Secret Service quickly responded and fired at Routh. Managing to escape, he was later caught by the police. Routh was found with two backpacks and a GoPro camera. The rifle was recovered from nearby bushes.
This attack follows the attempt on Trump that happened two months ago during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The repeated threats have raised concerns about Trump’s safety and the implications for public security.
The FBI is working with other agencies to understand why Routh targeted Trump and to see if there are any other threats.
In a social media post, Ohio Secretary of State, Frank LaRose said, “Thank God President Trump is safe! Let’s pray for his ongoing protection. We decide elections in this country with ballots not bullets.”
An initial statement from Steven Cheung, Trump Champaign Communications Director said, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.”
