Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned.

Tuesday morning’s resignation follows widespread criticism and scrutiny over the agency’s handling of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

The incident occurred recently at a rally in Pennsylvania, where a 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Crooks, opened fire.

Although Trump narrowly escaped harm, one attendee lost their life, and two others sustained critical injuries.

Cheatle faced intense questioning from members of a House Committee, including Representative Jim Jordan, regarding the Secret Service’s actions leading up to the rally.

Despite calls for her resignation during the hearing, Cheatle initially defended her position, asserting that she was the most qualified person to lead the agency responsible for protecting the president, vice president, their families, and key presidential candidates.

However, the mounting outrage and scrutiny appear to have culminated in her decision to resign from her position as Secret Service Director.
