Calvary Christian has announced its December Seniors of the Month, Hope Sellars and Lincoln Roell.

Hope Sellars is the daughter of Tracy and David Sellars.

School Activities & Awards: During high school, I was involved in band, playing the violin, and singing soprano in choir. In my sophomore year, I played a character in Calvary’s play, Anne of Green Gables. During both my Sophomore and Junior years, I was involved in my school’s student government, ASB, as a Service Director and Secretary. For both my Junior and Senior years, I have been a member of
Key Club.

Favorite School Memory: My favorite school memory is going on an ESM trip to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, during my freshman year. During this trip, I got to see the Bible account of Moses performed at the Sight and Sounds Theater and hear the entire Gospel of Mark performed by Piercing Word Ministries. I also got to tour the Hershey Chocolate Factory and make my own candy bar. That trip was full of fun as I got to bond with people in various grades of my high school and grow closer to God through our group Bible study.

What is something you’re passionate about? (hobbies or interests) One of my favorite hobbies is working on classic cars. I grew up working on cars with my dad and brother, and have learned many valuable skills along the way, such as welding and working on engines. I built my own 1960 VW Beetle and now enjoy taking it on road trips and to car shows during the summertime.

People who have been an inspiration to you: My parents have been a great inspiration in my life. They have always encouraged me to do the right thing, even when no one is watching or when I don’t benefit. They taught me to love God above everything and everyone else. I have benefited greatly from having a close relationship with them because they are people who love God and want to be close to Him.

Bible verse that has had a strong impact on you: One verse that has greatly impacted by is Psalm 42:1, which says, “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” This verse reminds me to long for God and His love more than anything in my life. Being a witness for Christ and His Word will be born out of a longing for God.

Most impactful high school activity: I was greatly impacted by my school’s Red Ribbon Week activities. During Red Ribbon week, we learned how to avoid sin and how to lift others out of sin through Scripture and prayer. Every day, we watched a video about how to grow in our Christian walk and had a discussion with our class and teachers about how to place our identity in God. Red Ribbon Week was very encouraging to my faith and helped my class bond.

Current Plans for after you graduate: I will be attending Cedarville University and will be majoring in Biblical Studies with a minor in Biblical Counseling.

In what way has your time at Calvary Christian School helped shape your worldview? Calvary has shaped my worldview by equipping me with biblical truth. Every year at Calvary, I have been in a Bible class where I have been taught about all the aspects of the Bible by teachers who truly care about seeing their students grow in the Lord. I have had the chance to ask and discuss hard questions about the Bible and dig deep into it through class discussion. Calvary has equipped me to not only defend my faith but also to be more confident in who I am as a child of God.

Any advice for students entering high school? My advice would be to step out of your comfort zone, not to make yourself feel good or look good, but to further the Kingdom of God. Oftentimes, when we think about stepping out of our comfort zone, we think about being bold in who we are or who we want to be. My challenge would be to put your identity in God as His child, so when you step out of your comfort zone, you aren’t doing it through a confidence born out of your own strength or desire, but that you do it to honor God through what you say and do. Being a Christian is more than just saying the right thing. It’s about glorifying God through your actions. Your actions will reflect what’s in your heart, so let your heart be ruled by God and nothing else.
