A semi truck struck the Bickham Covered Bridge on County Road 38 outside of Russells Point Saturday morning, causing damage to the structure.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred just after 9 AM when 40-year-old Daniel Hanson of District Heights, MD, was driving his white 2023 Freightliner semi.
Hanson, reportedly, attempted to drive his truck under the bridge but quickly realized the vehicle was too tall to pass through.
When the top of the semi made contact with the bridge, Hanson attempted to back up the truck, but was unable to clear the structure, damaging the bridge.
The Bickham Covered Bridge is a historic landmark that has a clearance of 12’2″, while most semis are 13’6″.
Hanson was issued a citation for disregarding traffic control devices.
