Several candidates running unopposed in Champaign County Primary Elections in May

Several positions in Champaign County are open and running unopposed in this year’s primary elections coming up in May.

In Urbana, four members of the City Council are running unopposed to retain their positions.

Republicans Mary Ann Collier and Audra Bean and running to keep their At-Large positions on the council.

Republicans Amy Jumper (1st Ward Council) and Edwin Davis (3rd Ward Council) look to retain their elected positions.

Two Republicans are hoping to gain a seat in the Champaign County Municipal Court. Gregory Harvey and Kevin Talebi submitted their names for consideration.

The deadline to declare candidacy for partisan candidates was February 5th, however, write-in candidates for the May 6 primary/special election have until 4 p.m. on February 24th to declare.

Several issues are up for vote as well.

They include:

  • Johnson Township –  a 5-year, $1 million tax levy renewal to fund general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repairing streets, roads, and bridges.
  • Rush Township – a 5-year,  half-million dollar tax levy renewal to maintain and operate cemeteries.
  • Graham Local School District – an additional 1% earned income tax for 5 years to provide for the current operating expenses of the school district.
  • Mechanicsburg Exempted Village – an income tax renewal of 1% for 15 years to provide for the current operating expenses of the school district.
  • Triad Local School District – a 5-year income tax renewal of 0.5% on the school district income of individuals and estates to provide for the current operating expenses of the school district.
