The Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Trustees were updated on several projects by Parks Superintendent Kris Myers at their meeting Tuesday night. After approving the minutes from the previous meeting and the October bills, Myers updated the trustees on the status of several projects that have been in the works for some time.

Myers said that basketball and wrestling signups are ongoing, with the upper division of basketball teams currently holding tryouts. He said that the participant numbers for these programs are consistent with previous years.

The recreation basketball teams will also play West Liberty again this year, offering more games for both programs.

Looking to next year, Myers said that he is in the process of advertising baseball and softball tournaments. He said softball will have two major tournaments in May and June in 2026.

Turning to maintenance issues, the tilling for the expansion of the Butterfly Garden will be completed this week, and work at Southview Park is ongoing.

The 5-year dam inspection was recently completed at Myeerah, and he is awaiting the State’s report.

The work at Harmon Park and Oakland Square is also ongoing. Myers said that the concrete walks at Oakland Square have been poured, and the swing structure has been installed. Also, the area for the play structure has been excavated, and he is expecting the concrete company to come this week to dig and pour the footers. Once that has been completed, the structure can be assembled.

The major update to the Trustees concerned the upcoming public input meeting, to be held on Thursday at the Distance Learning Center at Bellefontaine High School. The public is invited to attend this meeting with the design company to offer input about what they would like to see. Myers discusses the upcoming meeting:

Myers also informed the Trustees that the construction contract for Harmon Park has been approved. He discusses what that means:

The next meeting will be Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Bellefontaine Council Chambers.
