Wednesday, the Urbana Lions Club hosted John Shanley, who spoke about the Simon Kenton Pathfinders, a dedicated group of volunteers committed to maintaining the Simon Kenton Trail.
The trail stretches from Bellefontaine, through Urbana, and ends at the Ohio River, providing a scenic and practical route for residents and visitors alike.
Founded in 1997 as a non-profit organization, the Simon Kenton Pathfinders focus on developing and preserving multi-use pathway trails that offer both economic and transportation benefits to the community.
The group works tirelessly to keep the trail clean, safe, and accessible for all users.
Shanley talks more about the Pathfinders:
Shanley highlighted the Pathfinders’ upcoming annual bike tour fundraiser, scheduled for September 7th.
Participants pay $35 to ride the trail, with all proceeds going toward ongoing trail maintenance and improvements.
In recent news, the organization was awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to pave the trail, reseal existing surfaces, and remove bumps along the path.
The project is expected to be completed by next year, enhancing the trail’s safety and usability.
