A single-story house in the 700 block of Humble Street in DeGraff was completely engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived at the scene Saturday. The DeGraff Fire Department, along with mutual aid from Miami Township, West Liberty, and Rosewood, responded with a total of 25 firefighters to combat the blaze.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from Riverside, Indian Lake, and Rosewood were also on hand to provide assistance. Fortunately, all residents were home at the time of the fire but managed to evacuate safely without injury.
One bystander was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and was subsequently transported to a hospital by private vehicle.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In a show of community support, numerous residents donated water and Gatorade to keep the firefighters hydrated during the intense operation.
