West Liberty-Salem has named their October Seniors of the Month, Emma Smith and Dylan King.

Emma Smith is the daughter of Robin and Ben Smith.

School Activities and Awards: Cross Country, Track, National Honor Society, Calculus Club, Physics Club, Link Crew, Student Helper, Academic Excellence Award, Scholar Athlete Award.

If I were principal for a day: I would get rid of Minga.

Favorite school memory: Junior year lunch table.

People who have been an inspiration to me include: Coach Aaron Lauck.

Because: He is a fun and dedicated coach who has always pushed me to be the best I can be.

Lately, I have been reading: Lord of the Flies.

My advice to parents: Give your kid freedom to figure out who they are on their own. My parents’ greatest gift to me was giving me the chance to find out who I was and what I wanted to do with my life without pressure.

My biggest regret: Waiting until my junior and senior years to take the challenging classes I was interested in.

Next year I will be: I will hopefully be attending The Ohio State University to major in Zoology on a Pre-Vet track.

Dylan King is the son of David & Tara King.

School Activities and Awards: Cross Country – 2x Academic All-Ohioan, Track, Student Council,  Class Officer, National Honor Society, and Logan County Student United Way.

If I were principal for a day: If I were principal for a day, we would have a Minga-free day. You wouldn’t have to create the digital hall pass, get it approved, and then have the teacher end it. You would just have to tell the teacher where you’re going, and that’s it.

Favorite school memory: Eating lunch with my friends every day.

People who have been an inspiration to me include: My dad has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life.

Because: He is always very rational and insightful, and he has taught me how to balance wants and responsibilities.

Lately, I have been reading: The Lord of the Flies.

My advice to parents: Remember that everyone has complex lives, including your kids. You do a lot as a parent, and it may seem like your kid does near to nothing compared to you, but they are most likely stressed out about the stuff that means the world to them right now, just like you probably did when you were younger.

My biggest regret: My biggest regret is not doing show choir in high school after doing Jr. show choir in middle school.

Next year I will be: Attending an undecided college and probably studying something to do with economics.

Congratulations.
