Snow, ice blamed for series of crashes Sunday

Snow-covered and icy roadways were blamed for several crashes across Logan County on Sunday, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 7:00 a.m., deputies responded to a crash on U.S. Route 33 near County Road 10.

Preston Morehouse, 55, of Marysville, was westbound in a 2002 Ford F-350 when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, went through a ditch, and struck an exit ramp sign.

Morehouse and a passenger were not injured.

He was cited for failure to control.

The truck, which was pulling an empty flatbed trailer, and the trailer were both towed from the scene.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m., deputies responded to a crash on Township Road 55.

Derrek Driscol, 34, of Bellefontaine, was driving a 2010 Buick LaCrosse northbound when he went off the left side of the road, striking an embankment and a tree.

He was not injured and was cited for failure to control. His vehicle was towed.

Later in the day, just after 6:00 p.m., Tanner Pope, 23, of Sidney, was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang on State Route 235 near County Road 43 when he slid on ice, left the roadway, and struck a tree.

Pope was cited for driving under a suspended license.

The vehicle was left at the scene with permission from the property owner.

Just after 7:00 p.m., deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of County Road 57 and U.S. Route 68.

A 2006 Honda Ridgeline driven by Karmyn Ridge, 19, of Belle Center, slid through a stop sign and went off the right side of the roadway, striking the end of a guardrail.

Ridge was cited for failure to control, and the vehicle was towed.

The final crash of the evening occurred just after 8:00 p.m. Mary Gordon, 36, of Huntsville, was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus when she failed to negotiate a curve, slid off the roadway, and struck a utility pole.

She was not injured and was cited for failure to control.

Deputies also reported Gordon did not have vehicle insurance.

Deputies continue to remind drivers to slow down and use extra caution during winter weather conditions.
