Crews from the Bellefontaine Fire Department were called to 215 Powell Avenue just before noon on Thursday for a fire in a second-story bathroom.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the second floor.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but crews remained on the scene for approximately three hours to ensure the situation was fully under control.

The fire was contained to the bathroom and hall of the home, however, smoke damage is reported throughout the entire home, and some water damage to the first floor.

The Huntsville Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a space heater plugged into an extension cord.

Fire officials are urging residents to exercise caution when using space heaters, and ask you to plug a heater directly into the outlet.

No injuries were reported from the fire itself, however, one firefighter was treated at the scene for overexertion.
