Indian Lake Schools Resource Officer JR Brenner continues to provide students with valuable, real-world safety information through monthly presentations.
Brenner recently delivered his second presentation to high school students, this time focusing on what to do if you are pulled over while driving.
He told students to immediately pull over to the right side of the road and keep their hands on the steering wheel.
He also reminded drivers to inform the officer before reaching for any items in the vehicle, such as a wallet or insurance card.
Brenner encouraged students not to argue with the officer during a traffic stop, reminding them that if they disagree with a citation, they can address it later in court.
In addition to traffic stop procedures, Brenner emphasized the importance of obeying the speed limit.
He explained that speeding reduces a driver’s ability to accurately judge how quickly they may approach another vehicle, increasing the risk of collisions.
“When you’re speeding, it’s harder to stop safely if another vehicle pulls out or if there’s an animal or object in the roadway,” Brenner said.
Brenner also shared the philosophy behind his monthly presentations.
“Once a month during Laker Time, I present on a topic chosen by our high school students. I poll them a month prior, then tailor each presentation to what they want to learn about — driving safety, laws that affect teens, and school safety concerns. These sessions focus on education, prevention, and building trust. Once a Laker, always a Laker.”
