A St. Paris man was arrested early Sunday morning after a traffic stop in Urbana led officers to suspect he was driving under the influence.

According to a report from the Urbana Police Division, officers observed a blue 2001 Ford traveling west on Miami Street just after 1 a.m. and witnessed multiple marked lane violations before initiating a stop near the intersection of Miami and Sara streets.

The driver, Caleb McLean, 19, of St. Paris, told officers he was coming from Taco Bell. Police reported he had bloodshot and glassy eyes and observed an open container in the passenger seat concealed inside a koozie.

McLean told officers the container was a Busch Light beer, but initially denied consuming alcohol.

Officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests, where McLean showed multiple clues of impairment.

He later consented to a portable breath test and registered a 0.062 blood alcohol content. Police say he then admitted to consuming five alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening at a friend’s house in St. Paris.

McLean was taken to the Urbana Police Division, where he was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, underage consumption, and a marked lanes violation.
