Several area fire departments responded to a horse barn fire in Belle Center on Saturday, just after 12:15 PM.

Crews from Logan, Union, and Hardin Counties, were on the scene for more than six hours.

The 60,000-square-foot barn is home to Brant Performance Horses and was fully engulfed when crews arrived.

State Route 638 was closed for several hours as the firefighters worked to control the fire, as thick black smoke bellowed from the barn.

Reportedly, more than 40 horses died in the blaze.

Authorities report one person was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

They were later transferred to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

The barn was declared a total loss, the cause is unknown, and the State Fire Marshall is investigating.
