Bellefontaine police arrested 62-year-old Timothy Steinhelfer of Bellefontaine after a hit-and-run crash Saturday night.
Officers were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Lake Avenue and South Main Street.
A witness reported that one of the drivers left the scene and drove to TP Lanes.
Officers found the damaged vehicle, a black Honda CR-V, parked at TP Lanes with airbags deployed.
The driver was not inside the vehicle; however, Steinhelfer was found inside the bowling alley.
Steinhelfer told officers he did not remember the crash but admitted he drove to TP Lanes.
Officers said he was unsteady on his feet, slurring his words, had bloodshot eyes, and smelled of alcohol.
When asked how intoxicated he was on a scale of one to ten, Steinhelfer said he was a six and told officers he was “f***ed up.”
Steinhelfer was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence.
He refused field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample.
He was taken to the Bellefontaine Police Department and later released to a sober driver.
The next day, Steinhelfer was issued citations for OVI, refusal to submit to testing, and failure to obey traffic control devices.
