Thursday, Indian Lake High School hosted the 9th Annual Logan County Career Expo, offering upperclassmen the opportunity to connect with local employers for future employment, summer jobs, and side hustles.
Around 80 businesses and organizations participated in the event, setting up booths in the ILHS Main Gym and Auxiliary Gym.
Students from multiple schools in Logan and Auglaize Counties had the chance to explore career options in industries such as health care, construction, law enforcement, retail, agriculture, and manufacturing.
Educators encouraged students to interact with as many employers as possible, emphasizing the importance of networking for future career opportunities.
Indian Lake Senior Layla Shirey, who is already enrolled at Ohio Wesleyan University for International Business next fall, made a point to connect with local realtors. “I’ve started an online real estate course to get my real estate license. I plan to do that on the side to help pay for my schooling. It’s also something I’m interested in,” said Shirey.
Similarly, Laker Isaac Galbraith attended the Expo with plans to find a summer job before starting his union apprenticeship. “I’m looking for any kind of job for the next few months until I complete my interviews and begin with the union,” Galbraith said.
Logan County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Ben Vollrath, spoke to students before they entered the Expo.
He highlighted the strong demand for workers in the area, noting that many employers are still looking to fill positions:
The Logan County Career Expo, coordinated by the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center in partnership with the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, Logan County Job and Family Services, local school administrators, and business committee members, continues to provide valuable opportunities for students to connect with local employers and explore career pathways.
