The Indian Lake/Ohio Hi-Point FFA chapter successfully hosted its 3rd Annual Livestock Judging Contest at the Logan County Fairgrounds Wednesday, drawing in over 1,000 participants from nearly 90 schools across the region.
The event, a staple for FFA members, allows students to showcase their skills in evaluating livestock, including chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, and cattle.
Despite the absence of teacher Kelsey King, who was unable to attend, the contest ran smoothly, thanks to the hard work and determination of the students.
Phil Altstaetter, President of the Indian Lake FFA Alumni Club, commended the students for their efforts, noting that they were responsible for organizing and executing the entire event independently.
“The students did an amazing job putting this event together, from the planning stages to ensuring everything ran smoothly on the day,” said Altstaetter.
Altstaetter also pointed out that having the contest during the week was a significant factor in the large turnout:
The contest attracted FFA chapters from all over Ohio, with participants coming together to test their judging skills, which are essential for future agricultural careers.
The event also saw strong support from the local community, with approximately 30 adults, including FFA alumni and supporters, volunteering their time to assist in making the event a success.
