Stuff the Bus: Community rallies to help students

With the first day of school just around the corner, a bright yellow wave of generosity is rolling through Logan County.

United Way’s Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive is back, and local residents are stepping up once again to support students, teachers, and families as they prepare for a new academic year.

From backpacks to pencils, headphones to highlighters, dozens of collection bins, painted in bold “school bus yellow”, have popped up in businesses, churches, and offices across the county.

The idea is simple: while you’re out shopping, pick up a few extra supplies and drop them in the bin.

Every item collected will go straight into the hands of local students, helping to remove one more obstacle between them and a great school year.

This year’s most-requested items include backpacks, pencils, disinfecting wipes, over-ear headphones, and elastic waist pants and shorts, essentials that many schools say go fast.

Donations will be collected through Monday, August 18, and on Friday, August 22, everything will be sorted and delivered to classrooms across eight local school districts:

  • Bellefontaine City Schools
  • Benjamin Logan Local Schools
  • Calvary Christian School
  • Indian Lake Local Schools
  • Mac-A-Cheek Learning Center
  • Ohio Hi-Point Career Center
  • Riverside Local Schools
  • West Liberty-Salem Schools

You can drop off supplies at any of these local workplaces, churches, or businesses:

AGC, Agiliti, Alan Galvez Insurance, Belletech, Belle Center Cornerstone Church, Citizens Federal Savings & Loan, Civista Bank (Russells Point and West Liberty), Daido Metal USA, First United Methodist Church (Bellefontaine), Huntsville Cornerstone Church, Indian Lake Community Church, all Logan County Library branches, Luther Manor, Lutheran Community Services, Marker, Mary Rutan Health, NX Automotive Logistics US, PCPI Plastics LLC, Richwood Bank (Bellefontaine and Huntsville), Robinson Investments, Sloan Insurance, Steve Austin’s Auto Group, United Way of Logan County (653 S. Main St., Bellefontaine), Warren and Hall, LTD, and World Class Plastics.

A pack of pencils or a box of tissues may seem small — but for a student in need, it could mean everything.
